Cardinal Community School District is proud to present a stage production of "The Wizard of Oz" on Friday, March 25, and Saturday, March 26. Both showtimes start at 7:00 p.m. in the Cardinal High School Gymnasium.

The play is based on the beloved movie and features a student cast of all ages, from 2nd graders to seniors. There's even a Shitzu, named Maverick, making his performance debut as Toto! The show is directed by Cardinal teachers Megan Guest and Luke Miller.

"The casting of the characters is outstanding," Luke Miller, director of bands, says. "I am so proud of how these students have tackled the challenge of this major production. 'The Wizard of Oz' is not a small endeavor."

Students and staff members working on the play have created extensive set pieces, invested in special effects and worked diligently to memorize lines and staging. As students enter their final weeks of rehearsals, they face perhaps the most challenging part of putting on a play.

"I tell everyone involved that starting a production is easy but finishing can be hard and takes strength of character," Mr. Miller says.

We wish our students so much luck and are so proud of all of the work they've put into the play! We cannot wait to see it, and we hope fellow students, parents and community members can join us in supporting our students and staff.

"When a large team like ours puts together this large of a production, the best and most gratifying reward for our efforts is to be able to perform for a large audience," Mr. Miller says. "I really hope our cast, crew and involved adults are rewarded in this way."

In addition to Cardinal student and staff member involvement, we are so thankful for the community support of donations, our volunteers and the several incredible adult musicians who will provide live pit orchestra music for the production.

"I am grateful and humbled by the generous donations people and businesses have made," Mr. Miller says. "I am also very blessed with a dream team of adults that are helping make this show amazing. They give generously of their time and spend a small fortune of their own money because they care so much for these students. These people are truly selfless."

Come see the incredible show our students, staff and volunteers have prepared for you! Tickets for "The Wizard of Oz" are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Advance tickets can be ordered by emailing Mr. Miller at lmillerteacher@gmail.com. Let him know how many tickets to reserve and they can be picked up at the school or at will call before a performance. Checks should be made out to Cardinal Drama.

We hope to see you there!

The Cardinal Community School District cast of the Wizard of Oz

From our first interaction with the staff at Cardinal schools, we felt at home. The entire staff is amazing and we feel that we have a trusted partner in our children’s education. The greatest testament to their success is that our kids love going to school. There is nothing more welcoming as a parent than to have a school that you trust to take care of the most precious thing in your life. Cardinal School District does just that.
