Did you know that early access to an affordable education means that a student is more likely to be successful in kindergarten readiness skills? That’s why we offer a free full-day preschool program from Tuesday through Friday.

Cardinal Preschool takes a unique approach by working with the entire family, not just the student in the classroom. Our teachers provide and implement research-based early childhood curriculums while also incorporating lessons to instill social and emotional growth.

Preschool students in both the 3-year-old and 4-year-old programs are taught music, art, and PE by our licensed Cardinal teachers. Students in our preschool program also get to experience field trips, special guests, and assemblies with the whole Cardinal student body.

There is no charge for Cardinal preschool services, and meals and snacks are provided. Each of our seven classrooms follows a set daily schedule that includes circle time, centers, free play, literacy, formal and informal assessments, meals, restroom breaks, and rest time. Our program start/end times match that of the elementary school schedule (8:10 am - 3:30 pm).

In addition, we are proud to offer these comprehensive services that are available through our local partnerships:

Sieda Head Start & Early Childhood Iowa Partnership

We know that families in our service area have limited access to affordable childcare and all-day preschool.  To combat this, ECI (Early Childhood Iowa), Sieda Head Start, and Cardinal Community School District have a longstanding partnership to provide a free full-day comprehensive learning experience.

Our partnership with Sieda Head Start has lasted well over a decade. We believe that our partnership is a great resource to the community because of our quality programming, desire to continuously improve through collaborations with partners, and the additional resources we are able to offer children and their families. This unique braided funding model (with support from the Shared Visions Grant) allows us to serve 128 preschool students within seven classrooms.

From our first interaction with the staff at Cardinal schools, we felt at home. The entire staff is amazing and we feel that we have a trusted partner in our children’s education. The greatest testament to their success is that our kids love going to school. There is nothing more welcoming as a parent than to have a school that you trust to take care of the most precious thing in your life. Cardinal School District does just that.
