New Cardinal CSD elementary counselor smiling with her husband.

posted July 28, 2023

We are excited for Amanda Clubb to join our team for her first year as an elementary school counselor. We hope you’ll stop and say hello if you see her on campus! Get to know her ahead of the new school year by reading her answers to a few questions below.

Why did you want to teach at Cardinal?
I remember all the positives from staff and students when I would fill in when I previously worked for SIEDA Head Start. From what I've seen, the staff is constantly working to see the best out of their students instead of deflecting from the situation. I am excited to be a part of a great program.

What do you like about working with students in this grade level?
There are so many great aspects of elementary students. I hope to encourage students to reflect on their feelings not only at school but in other areas of their life. It's also a great lesson to not only learn from staff but learning what students do and do not like. I enjoy when students have their "ah-ha" moment in connecting with what has been taught to them. Seeing the sparkle in their eyes makes it feel like you're making a difference.

What is your favorite part of working in education?
Having fun while learning. Learning doesn't always have to be a serious matter but if it does then certain actions would take place. I also love that every day is different, nothing is ever the same.

What is your ultimate goal as a teacher?
As my first year, my ultimate goal is to learn about the students, staff and families. Learning throughout my program, it takes almost three years to get set with lessons and feel fully confident in your role. I tend to learn what is or isn't working to make sure all students feel like they are being heard. I'm very good at communication, so speaking with staff, I hope to learn ways that I can improve my education as well.

What do you hope students take away from your class this year?
My biggest takeaway this year is growth. I hope for students to grow in counseling lessons, but also knowing that I have grown as an individual from the beginning of the school year.

My family lives in a small town, the population is 40. We have a four-year-old chocolate lab named Penelope. Love being outdoors and going on walks. When not outdoors, I love reality television shows because I can either relate to or realize other things happening in other areas. I love to clean any chance I can get.

My husband recently has been diagnosed with cancer. This has thrown our life for a curveball, but we are living each day and working with doctors to make sure he is getting the necessary treatment.

My real endorsement of Cardinal Schools and its faculty and staff can be seen each morning when I hand them the one irreplaceable and most valuable thing in my life: my kids. No letter I write could be a greater endorsement than that simple act. I give them my kids, and I do it with a huge smile on my face because I trust them to do what they are most outstanding at: building our future.
