Last week, the Legacy Youth Alliance approved two grants for Cardinal Community School District, one for Cardinal Visions Alternative School and one for Cardinal Youth Football.

Washer & Dryer

Legacy Youth Alliance is providing a $2,500 grant for a washer and dryer for Cardinal Visions Alternative School. While a washer and dryer may at first seem like an odd school purchase, the appliances will teach our students real-life skills in real-time. One of our goals for our Visions students is to promote independence and ready them for the future. In addition to academics, these students are learning social-emotional and home skills. Having a washer and dryer on campus allows them to learn how to use the machines, build healthy habits, and bring in their own dirty laundry, which may not be easy to clean at home.

"The reason we would really like to have a washer and dryer is because many of our kids struggle to have a washer and dryer in their household," Sara Swanson, Visions Alternative teacher explains. "Many times they don't have the materials to wash clothes, like soap or dryer sheets."

The washer and dryer will be installed this summer ahead of the 2022/2023 school year and we cannot wait to begin utilizing them!

Football Helmets

This past year, we had 36 players join our youth football team, and that number is expected to grow next year. We want to be able to welcome as many players as we can, and that means we need more equipment. Thankfully, the Legacy Youth Alliance has awarded us $1,750 for the purchase of new helmets to keep the players safe.

"My number one goal is to make sure that this game is fun for the players, but also make sure that they are safe while playing the sport," John Torres, Cardinal Youth Football coordinator says.

With the new helmets, Mr. Torres will ensure the players know safety facts about the equipment and how to properly care for it so the equipment lasts longer.

"It is my duty as a football coach and a coordinator to make sure that I give athletes the best equipment to ensure their safety," Mr. Torres says. "This is important for student-athletes because if they know that they have the right equipment they will be able to play the sport they love without having to worry about the equipment."

Thank You

We're so grateful to Legacy Youth Alliance for their support for both our youth football team and our Vision Alternative students.

A huge thank you to all of our team members who made these two grants possible by writing letters and sending in videos explaining the importance of this equipment for our students. It wouldn't be possible without your efforts!
