Carla Kaup joins us this year to teach high school science. Ms. Kaup has been teaching for eighteen years, and we are so excited to have her on our team! We asked her some questions so you could get to know her a bit before the school year begins.

Why did you want to teach at Cardinal?
The teaching opportunity crossed my path and after hearing so many wonderful reviews about the community, students and staff, I was very excited to join the positive culture at Cardinal!

What do you like about teaching science?
Learning about science and sharing with the students makes for a wonderful day! Science is a natural way to explore our world and make real life connections that hopefully spark curiosity for our students.

What is your favorite part of teaching?
There are so many favorites of being a teacher, but the most memorable are seeing the students' proud 'Aha!' moments when a challenging concept clicks and students' confidence grows!

What is your ultimate goal as a teacher?
Along with interactive and fun lessons, I am an instructor who wants to inspire students to develop their individual strengths to grow into citizens that will make a difference!

What do you hope students take away from your class this year?
Academically, an improved understanding of the science in daily life. After building that foundation, for each student have the confidence that he or she can take on any higher level class.  Most importantly I hope my class is remembered as a place where everyone feels welcome and has many laughs throughout the school year.

Fun Facts/Hobbies:
I just moved to Iowa from Nebraska this summer and have been enjoying the area. In my spare time I enjoy hiking and horseback riding and spending time with friends.  I have 3 grown kids. A daughter, Shelby, who's also a teacher for 1st graders.  My oldest son, Zack and wife Courtney live by Lincoln, NE. I LOVE spending time there with my grandchildren, Stetson and Quincy.  The middle child, Nick, has his own business and is a rodeo clown across the United States.
