We are excited for Ashley Hobbs to join our team this year in two roles: our on-site Indian Hills TRIO (6-12) and high school student success specialist. She has five years of experience working as a teacher, and we look forward to seeing her flourish in these new roles. We’ve asked her some questions so you can get to know her as the school year kicks off.

Why did you want to teach at Cardinal?
After spending several years teaching at a very large high school in a big city, I am excited to serve a smaller population where I can build relationships with more students and join a community that I hear so many positive things about.

What do you like about this position?
I am excited to be able to focus on the relationship-building side of education more and provide students with the support they need to make them successful in high school, college and career.

What is your favorite part of working with students?
Building relationships with students and watching them evolve.

What is your ultimate goal as a student success specialist?
My goal is to help students have a meaningful academic experience at the middle school, high school and college level so they can set themselves up for a lifetime of success. I also hope to build meaningful relationships so that I can best serve them and their needs.

What do you hope students take away from your work this year?
I hope students will gain meaningful tools and knowledge that they will carry with them as they think about and prepare for life after high school.

Fun Facts/Hobbies:
I was born and raised in Ottumwa, but I just moved back here in June with my husband, Kyle, our 10-month-old son Jack, and dog, Tex, from Mesa, Arizona. I love being here and so close to my family, but I will miss the Arizona winters!

I love to spend time with my family and travel.
