Alyson Goodell, new ELA teacher at Cardinal, with husband and two small children.

posted September 3, 2026

We are so glad to have Alyson Goodell joining our team this year to teach 8th-grade ELA and English 1. Mrs. Goodell has been teaching for 8 years. We asked Mrs. Goodell some questions so that you can get to know her a bit before the school year begins.

Why did you want to teach at Cardinal?
I want to teach at Cardinal because this is the school district that we chose for our children. When my husband and I were buying our house, we knew we would eventually want our kids to be a part of the Comet family. I felt that if we felt strongly about this being the right district for our family, that I would eventually want to teach here as well. I am so excited for this opportunity!

What do you like about teaching English language arts?
I like teaching ELA because it gives students a voice. Teaching ELA allows me to be able to help students become better writers, readers, and more confident thinkers.

What is your favorite part of teaching?
My favorite part of being a teacher is building relationships with students and watching them grow throughout the year.

What is your ultimate goal as a teacher?
My ultimate goal as a teacher is to be able to inspire a love of learning for students and to be a safe, supportive person in their lives.

What do you hope students take away from your class this year?
I hope that my students are able to build on practical reading and writing skills to help prepare them for their future.

Fun Facts/Hobbies:
I have been married to my husband, Tyler, for 5 years. We have a 4-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son. I love going on adventures with my family, reading a good book, and riding our golf cart around our small town.

From our first interaction with the staff at Cardinal schools, we felt at home. The entire staff is amazing and we feel that we have a trusted partner in our children’s education. The greatest testament to their success is that our kids love going to school. There is nothing more welcoming as a parent than to have a school that you trust to take care of the most precious thing in your life. Cardinal School District does just that.
