The Cardinal Community School District Board of Directors has named James Craig as the district's next superintendent.
As the current superintendent of the Sibley-Ocheyedan CSD, Craig has revamped the salary schedule to retain staff, led multiple facility improvements, and facilitated the Self-Assessment of MTSS Implementation model to help special education students address achievement gaps. |

Cardinal Students Honored at Academic Excellence Awards Banquet
On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, the South Central Conference (SCC) hosted its Academic Excellence Awards Banquet at Carpenter's Hall in Chariton, Iowa. Students who were in the top 5% of their graduating class were honored. A great meal, an awards ceremony, and an awesome speech by Todd Jacobus, executive director of the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs, were provided to our outstanding students. |
Shea Swafford Promoted to High School Wrestling Head Coach
Cardinal Community School District promoted staff member Shea Swafford to high school wrestling head coach. His new role starts with the 2023-2024 school year.
Swafford currently serves as the middle school wrestling coach and head coach to Cardinal Community School District's Comet Wrestling Club. He will stay very active in those organizations but will devote most of his time and energy to Cardinal's boys and girls high school teams. Swafford also coaches MS Football and teaches MS Social Studies. |
Cardinal Student Competes in IHSSA All-State Festival
Cardinal's Speech team had a great year! Students Olivia Pluemer, Dayne Owings, Ajaah Cox, and Zach Smith competed in the Iowa High School Speech Association's Storytelling, Public Address, Radio Broadcasting, and Musical Theater contests, respectively. |
Deputy Shadduck Brings Positivity to Campus
Cardinal Community School District began a partnership with the Wapello County Sherriff's Office for a School Resource Officer (SRO) program in 2019, and we are so glad we did! The program brought us Deputy Chris Shadduck who has been a pillar of our district since he started. We wanted to give him a shout-out for all he does for our students and staff members. |

Cardinal CSD's jazz choir is only in its first year, but that hasn't stopped it from making some noise. They recently attended an invitational where they performed with choirs in higher divisions. They were the only choir in attendance from a 2A school (smaller student populations than schools in 3A and 4A, the divisions they competed with). |
Cardinal Community School District is proud to offer students in preschool through 6th grade the opportunity to join the Little Comets Wrestling club. The school-facilitated club is open to any students who would like to join! |
