Congrats Large Group Speech!

The drive to Linn-Mar was long and silent. I could say that the students were focused and meditative, but since the clock said 6:30 a.m. it meant that they were plugged into Ipods and sleeping. The only noise in the Suburban was the dulcet sound of Mrs. Burke singing along to the radio

I am so proud of these students! They are incredibly busy kids and even though it was hard to schedule practices around sports, they put their best efforts into their performances. Logan Rachford and Sam Schmidt were our seasoned participants. For Trevor Albert, Caden Davis and Candice Guiter, going to State Speech was a completely new experience.

All of the performers at State had to earn a 1 rating at Districts. These same performers now have to present to 3 judges at State and earn a 1 rating from each; this is hard to do as the judges don't discuss their decisions with one another and circumstances like time of day, mood and personal preference can come into play. To put it in perspective, earning a 2 rating at State is like earning an A- whereas a 1 rating is like receiving an A+.

Trevor and Caden's performance of "Who's On First" had the audience laughing yet again and earned an overall 2 rating; this is awesome for two first time Speech performers. They worked hard, and it paid off. The Improv team of Logan, Sam, Candice and Trevor decided on the scene "A parent is angry" and had some really great moments. I even overheard some students in the audience quoting some one liners from their performance. The judges gave their scene two 2 ratings and a 1 rating for an overall 2 rating. A fantastic job done by both groups!

With Large Group Speech finished, we now focus on Individual Speech. I can't wait to continue coaching with this next group of performers!
