Many thanks to everyone for their vote and support in the US Cellular Calling all Communities contest. A lot of dedicated people worked very hard getting the vote out for Cardinal--Thank You!
Stay tuned, as results will be announced soon.
DEAR CARDINAL COMMUNITY:
To date, we have had 9 snow days that we must make up. The following days which were previously not scheduled for student attendance will be used to make up four of these days: March 5th, April 1st, April 5th, and April 30th.
In order to make up the remaining days, starting Monday, March 8, 2010, and going through Monday, May 24th, 2010, we will run an extended school day. Please note that if we have more snow days, the May 24th date will have to be adjusted accordingly. Classes at the Middle/High School will begin at 8:10 a.m. and release at 3:40 p.m. Class at the Elementary will begin at 8:23 a.m. and release children that are picked up at 3:27 p.m. and bus children at 3:33 p.m. All buses will drop students off at the Secondary building first in the a.m. and pick up at the Elementary first in the p.m. The early start time will affect some but not all bus routes. Please note that your child/ren will arrive home approximately 10 to 15 minutes later each day and your morning route will be as follows:
Bus #1 Tom Essary will begin his route 10 minutes earlier
Bus #2 Norma Ragen will begin 10 minutes earlier
Bus #3 Ron Stephenson’s route will remain the same
Bus #6 Maggie Metcalf will begin 15 minutes earlier
Bus #7 Larry Crow will begin 10 minutes earlier
Bus #9 Tom Box will begin 10 minutes earlier
Bus #10 Lisa Brant will remain the same
Bus #11 Butch Kent will begin 15 minutes earlier
Bus #12 Frank Woollums route will remain the same
Bus #18 Danny Coffin’s route will also remain the same
This schedule may need to be adjusted after the first few days to make sure we arrive at school on time.
Congratulations to Cardinal's Teacher and Students of the month for January!

CARDINAL MOVES INTO 21ST CENTURY LEARNING
TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS
Cardinal students look over their new Mac Books.
As Cardinal moves forward into the age of 21st Century Learning, we know their will be challenges ahead, but the district is ready to meet those challenges head on for one reason, “Increasing the academic acheivement level of our students and preparing them for the world of tomorrow today.”
Why a 1-1 program for Cardinal? Cardinal’s established goals for the move to a 1-1 program (a laptop in every student’s hands) are to:
- Increase student achievement.
- Increase student engagement.
- Complements project-based learning driven by research, collaboration and production of a final product.
- Broaden learning beyond the classroom.
- Takes advantage of teachable moments.
- Preparation for tomorrow’s workplace.
One major focus in the move to the 1-1 program will be the improved academic achievement of Cardinal’s Low Social Economic Status (Low SES) subgroup of students. School districts that have been using the 1-1 program over the past three to five years report the most significant increase in learning has taken place in Low SES students. Low SES students are defined by the Department of Education as students on free or reduced lunch - Low SES students make up more than 50% of Cardinal’s student population.
Cardinal is placing the world of tomorrow in the hands of our students today.

Cardinal’s Vision and Goals for Technology are student oriented.
Cardinal District Technology Vision Statement:
Cardinal believes technology transforms learning in schools when it fundamentally changes the way the school community collaborates in the education of the individual student. We must ensure technology becomes a transparent and integral part of a rich and flexible learning environment that prepares students for college, career, and citizenship. |
Cardinal Technology Goals:
• Technology Literacy Goal: Student engagement in learning increases with technology.
o Learning is differentiated and active.
o Learning is constructed and inquiry based.
o Learning is collaborative and communicative.
o Learning is available 24/7, and students are active contributors to the learning environment.
• Technology Integration Goal: Teachers engage technology in the teaching and learning cycle.
o Instruction is collaborative and differentiated.
o Instruction is driven by data.
o Instruction is supported by relevant professional development.
o Digital learning resources support Instruction.
• Technology Integration Goal: The Community is connected with learning.
o District, school, and student data is shared.
o Procedures, policies and information are shared.
o The Community is involved in technology planning. |
As Cardinal’s superintendent, I believe one of the educational goals of our 1-1 program must be to make the use of technology a routine or common occurrence in the classroom and not an event. Taking a classroom of students to a computer lab (if another teacher is not scheduled into the lab) is an event, Cardinal’s 1-1 program will make using technology in the regular classroom as common and routine as using a textbook in the classroom.
Have a good day and a better tomorrow . . .
