2006-07 Annual Progress Report for
Cardinal Community School District
The following is a brief report on the progress the Cardinal Community School district students have made in the state and federal mandated reporting areas of reading, mathematics and science as established by law through the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.
Our district is trying to report the proficiency rates as established through ITBS/ITED scores through what the district hopes is an easily understandable format. Hopefully these formats will more clearly explain where Cardinal is presently as compared to the past in reading and math over the last eight years. Reporting science proficiency rates became mandatory over the last two years, so this is why there are only two years of science results reported for Cardinal students.
Also, in this report is data on how twenty-two graduating students last year that took the ACT exam did in comparison to all other students taking the exam in the state of Iowa. The ACT exam is a very accurate predictor of how well a student is prepared or ready for college. A composite score of 19 to 20 is usually an indicator that a student had the knowledge to succeed in college.
Cardinal’s reading report format is broken down into comparing the four year period of reading proficiency rates from 2000 through 2003 to the four year period of 2004 through 2007. By using an eight year period of time to analyze data, the district can get a truer picture of reading growth than by just comparing this year to last year. The color coding will hopefully help one get a better visual of student growth in reading over the past eight years.
Cardinal’s mathematics reporting format has been broken down into a graph that extends over an eight year time period (same time period as used for reading). The percentage proficient in this graph is for the average percent of students proficient in mathematics in grades three (3) through eleven (11) on a yearly basis. By using this visual it is easy to see that the trend line district-wide for mathematics proficiency has continued upward over the last eight years (note last 4 years as compared to first 4 years of graph).
Cardinal’s science scores for the past two years are reported for each grade level in a two column reporting format with one column for 2005-06 and one column for 2006-07 scores. Cardinal’s science proficiency scores continue to be high for the 2006-07.
If one wants more information on Cardinal’s required NCLB data, go to this URL address at Iowa Dept. of Education: https://www.edinfo.state.ia.us/data/aprchart.asp?s=00090000 .
Yes! Because Cardinal is a data driven and time on task district all of this information is important for one reason - the increased academic achievement each and every Cardinal student.
