Vocabulary:

  • Egg laying mammal- pg. 367 mammals that lay eggs, also called monotremes
  • Pouched mammal-pg.367 give birth to young that are not well developed, so they spend time in a pouchlike structure in their mother’s body.  These mammals are also called marsupials.
  • Placental mammal- pg. 367 the young of these animals develop more fully within the female
  • Placenta-pg.371 structure through which developing mammals receive food and oxygen in the mother.
  • Gestation period-pg 372 time the young takes to develop inside the mother
